We're hiring: Developer Relations and Go-to-Market Lead, Africa
Crane's products are out in the world. We're looking for the person who brings developers and users to them, and brings their needs back to the team.
You know that across Africa, a good product still has to be carried to people. It has to be shown in person, explained in the right language and supported when it breaks. What works in one country often has to be rethought for the next. That is the job we're hiring for.
What Crane builds
Crane AI Labs builds AI infrastructure that works where the cloud does not. We adapt open models toward African languages such as Luganda and Swahili, and build them to run offline on basic Android phones. We work with health, education, agriculture and small-business teams across Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.
Developers can already build on our work:
- Crane Voice Studio (in beta) turns text into speech and speech into text in Luganda, Swahili and more. Every file it makes carries a watermark that anyone can check.
- Ganda-Gemma and Swahili-Gemma, our open language models, built on Google's open Gemma family.
- TinyFacade, an open-source Android service that lets apps share one on-device model, with published tool-calling benchmarks in Luganda and Swahili.
Why this role, why now
So far we have mostly built and deployed. The next stage is adoption: developers building on Crane, and organisations and people using our products every day. That takes someone whose whole job is to bring them in, help them succeed and tell us what they need.
What you'll do
- Bring developers onto Crane with guides, sample apps, office hours, workshops and hackathons.
- Grow adoption of our products: find early customers in each market, run launches and turn first-time users into regulars.
- Work with Google's Gemma community, NVIDIA's NeMo open-source community and the Cohere Labs open-science community, as well as local developer groups and universities.
- Bring the field back to the team: what people ask for, where products break and what they will pay for.
- Speak and write about what developers build with Crane.
Who we're looking for
- Early in your career, with proof you can bring people together: a student or developer community, a Google Developer Group or Women Techmakers chapter, a hackathon, an internship or a side project with real users.
- Technical enough to build a small demo against an API and to explain a model's limits honestly.
- A clear writer and speaker in English; French, Arabic or Portuguese, or an African language such as Swahili, Luganda or Kinyarwanda, is a plus.
- At ease across Africa's many cultures: you've worked with people from more than one country or community, and you adapt how you explain, present and build trust.
- Business instinct: you've grown something, whether members, users or sales, and can show the numbers.
- At home in Africa's developer, startup and research communities, and with the AI tools developers use every day.
This is an early-career role and a strong fit for recent graduates. It's based in Nairobi, Kigali or Kampala, with regular travel across the continent. We particularly welcome applications from women.
